Some thoughts on embodiment, language, and meaning

Currently, there is much active discussion in the zeitgeist about whether or in what ways LLMs like Claude and ChatGPT are "conscious".

I'm perfectly happy to say: Yes, the Chinese Room "knows Chinese", in a sense, even though the man, book, walls, slots, and papers that compose the room clearly do not.

I'd argue that I know English quite well, but no one could point to any specific neuron in my brain that "knows" English.
